RUBY

This pretty girl came into our care after she was transferred to us from another centre. She had recently been rehomed by them but was returned to them after she had been involved in a couple of incidents with other dogs and a member of the public. Both incidents could have been easily avoided and it is incredibly sad that Ruby was involved. Totally wrong place wrong time situations!

On arriving with us she was assessed and put on a behavioural plan to help with her behaviour with strangers and her interactions with other dogs. We are there looking for experienced owners who would be prepared to intially work alongside Ruby's handlers to give her the best start in her new home.

Ruby is a bright dog who has lots of energy. She knows lots of commands and loves to play ball in our paddock or go for longer walks. She is strong but will walk well on her harness and lead. Ruby's history showed that she was well behaved in the home, she was house trained and generally well mannered. She is a little anxious when meeting new people. In her previous home, she snapped at someone who tried to stroke her in a cafe. Our team has found that she actually makes friends with people easily, when given a choice and the ability to go at her own pace.

Ruby would much prefer to avoid having close contact with other dogs. She does not bark at them or lunge towards them when passing on a lead, but quietly turns her head away. However, if other dogs fail to read her signals to keep away and they invade her space, she will snap and has bitten another dog. As part of her behavioural plan she has now been trained to wear a muzzle. She wears this comfortably when out on walks and her new owners must ensure that Ruby wears her muzzle whenever she is out in public. Our kennel team will help you recognise Ruby's signals and will show you what we've taught Ruby to help manage these situations.

We are looking for a rural home where Ruby can have lots of space to avoid coming into close contact with other dogs. She would need a good sized, secure garden with 6 foot fencing where she can have her ball play and calm sniffy exploration. She will need adopters who can recognise and respond appropriately to her signals when other people or dogs are near her.

Ruby is being fed on a fish based diet which she would need to stay on and her new owners would need to be prepared to continue with this diet.

Ruby's potential adopters would need to be prepared to make numerous visits to the centre so that they can work with Ruby' handler to learn her training plan and create a bond with her.

Despite her issues Ruby has so much to offer to her new owners and her handlers love her!!

Only if you meet all of Rubys rehoming criteria, please complete an
Online Application Form.
