JOSIE
It took over a month to gain Josie's trust sufficiently to allow us to take her out for walks with other friendly dogs and to gradually introduce stroking and handling. Josie is now comfortable going for walks wearing a harness and shows good social skills with other dogs. She is learning how to cope with conventional forms of affection such as stroking and cuddles but still likes it to be in short doses and when she wants it. Nevertheless, Josie forms strong attachments to people and wants to be with them at all times.
Josie has come such a long way in her time at West Hatch and we feel that in the right home she has a chance of a good life despite all the problems encountered during her formative years. We are looking for extremely patient owners who have experience with nervous rescue dogs and who understand that Josie needs time and space to develop in her own time. Potential adopters will need to be prepared to do multiple visits to the Centre to establish a bond with Josie before they take her home. She will benefit from living with a calm, relaxed dog who can provide reassurance in times of stress and company at all times. A semi rural environment (small town/village) would probably help along with access to a secure garden. She is worried about the prospect of travelling in a vehicle and this is another obstacle which will require patience and familiarisation.
We feel that it would be best if Josie is fostered in the first instance with a view to her being adopted once she has settled into her new home.
